The Rose

The Rose
So deep a red
The velvety depths pull me in
Then the bite
The thorns pierce my skin
Those hypnotic blooms
A trap
The vicious red rose
So much a beauty
So unkind to touch
The wall
Her protection
her armor
The beauty, a shield
to what lies beneath
the soft inside
the petals
fragile, breakable
she needs her wall
it keeps her enimies at bay
it keeps admirers away
the thorns two-edged sword
